Margaret Starbird is the product
of a multinational upbringing.
As the child in an army family
she lived in Germany.
After traveling widely in Europe
she studied comparative literature
and European history with an emphasis
on medieval studies at the University
of Maryland.
In 1963 and 1964 she studied
on a Fulbright grant
at the Christian Albrechts
University in Kiel, Germany.
She completed her master
of arts degree at the University
of Maryland and remained
there to teach German language
and literature until 1968.
Twenty years later
she returned to the role
of student at Vanderbilt Divinity
School in Nashville, Tennessee.
There she pursued the study
of scripture and Judeo-Christian
heritage. She has taught scripture
and religious education
to Roman Catholics for many years.
As her interest in the feminine experience of God has
grown she gives lectures and retreats centered in the
call to the restoration of the Sacred Feminine in Christianity.
She has authored two previous books. The Woman with the Alabaster Jar: Mary Magdalene and the Holy Grail and The Goddess in the Gospels: Reclaiming the Sacred Feminine. Both books are centered in the theme of the lost Bride in the Christian story and the medieval heresy of the Holy Grail.
Margaret is married and the mother of five children, all now grown. She and her husband, a retired army officer, live in
the Pacific Northwest
