A writer native to the mountains of Eastern Kentucky,
Pauletta Hansel,
In Cincinnati, Pauletta
was a founding member of Street Talk, a theater collective
which wrote, produced and performed plays locally and nationally during 1980-1984.
In 1998 she premiered her one-woman performance of poetry and monologue,
Sitting with Terry. Both Sitting with Terry and Divining
were funded in part by grants from the City of Cincinnati.
Her professional work is now mostly
divided between the Urban Appalachian council, an advocacy, service and cultural
organization serving the descendents of Cincinnati's Appalachian
migrants, and women Writing for (a) Change, a feminist creative writing center which
provides time, space and a supportive community to encourage women and girls in
their writing and their lives.
